I Tested Our New Consistent Models Feature on My Girlfriend

Hi, I'm Parsa from the FASHN AI team, and today I'm going to walk you through our new consistent models feature. But instead of just showing you demos, I convinced my girlfriend Noa to let me test it on her for real shopping. Here's exactly how it went and what we learned.

Why I Actually Wanted to Test This đź’ˇ

Look, I work on this stuff every day, but there's a difference between seeing it work with random models and watching your girlfriend use it for actual shopping. Noa has this thing where she'll spend hours online shopping, fill up her cart, then abandon everything because (her words not mine) "I have no idea how this will look on me."

Plus she's always complaining about how she can only shop from places like Aritzia and Zara with good return policies, even though there are tons of smaller brands and international sites with better prices but expensive returns. This was fun for me, I got to see if our model actually solved these real problems.

Taking the Photos 📸

Even though I know our guidelines inside and out (8-12 high-quality photos with variety in angles, expressions, and lighting), I was curious to see how easy it would be for someone who doesn't work here.

She looked at them and spent 5 minutes scrolling through her gallery to get the photos (she has a lot of photos of herself thanks to me). We also took a couple of photos on the spot. No big setup needed.

What worked (you want to vary your photos):

  • Close-up shots with her face clearly visible and good lighting

  • Mixed indoor lighting (a ring light goes a long way)

  • Different expressions (serious, smiling, neutral)

  • A few different angles

What didn't work:

  • That one photo where she was wearing sunglasses (I definitely should have caught that before uploading)

  • Any photos with people in the background (confuses the AI)

It’s important to note that the AI learns what it sees, so we made sure her hair and makeup looked how she wanted in the final results. This actually matters more than people think. With that said, you can prompt a certain hairstyle that wasn’t in the model photos and it’ll still work.

The Waiting Game ⏰

The upload through our web app was straightforward (as it should be, since I've tested it a million times). Even though I knew roughly how long training takes, those few minutes felt like forever. I really wanted to see how the consistent model would turn out.

The Results 🎉

The preview of the consistent model threw Noa off at first. It’s eerily accurate. Time to generate some model photos with the consistent model! This was straightforward.

We selected Noa as the consistent model then started going through each prompt template one at a time, saving the ones we liked most to our model library.

Now that we have some models saved to our library, it's time for the first try on in the studio: an Aritzia dress she'd been eyeing but wasn't sure about the fit.

I generated 4 samples and chose my favorite of the bunch.

Her reaction: "Woahhh that’s scary it looks just like me!! This is so weird"

Okay so maybe not the exact reaction that I was looking for, but hey, she thought it looked just like her so that was a win in my books.

Even knowing how our tech works, seeing it capture not just her face but how clothes would actually fit her body was pretty impressive. The fit and drape looked natural.

Benefits of Virtual Try On 🚀

We chatted about what this means for the future of online shopping…

For her:

  • Started buying from smaller brands and international sites that don't offer returns (often way cheaper)

  • Stopped limiting herself because of poor return policies

  • Started sending virtual try-on pics to her friends before buying anything expensive

  • Actually bought things from her saved Instagram posts instead of just collecting them (ran them through virtual try on)

For me:

  • Got to see our feature solve a real problem in real time

  • Learned that the user experience worked

  • Realized how much this changes the online shopping dynamic, especially for brands without good return policies

Bonus: The model works perfectly with the Model Swap feature.

Things I'd Do Differently Next Time 📝

  • Take more indoor shots (since most of her shopping is for everyday wear)

  • Actually follow our own guidelines better (those sunglasses photos were my bad)

For now, Noa is fitting her virtual twin into that denim jacket she spotted on TikTok, and I’m curious to see if she pulls the trigger on it.
